Bitcoin mining in the UAE: a practical guide

Abdul Hakeem · Aktualisiert am 1. November 2026 · 4 Min. Lesezeit

Most people who mine Bitcoin from the UAE buy an ASIC miner and host it in a data centre rather than at home, because residential power is expensive and the machines are loud and hot. Hosting at Segments in the UAE is 6.0¢ per kWh. What a machine earns depends on its efficiency and the Bitcoin price; check a model before you buy.

Power prices and why hosting wins

Electricity is the biggest cost of mining. Residential tariffs in the UAE make home mining unprofitable for most machines, while hosting centres buy power at industrial rates and bundle cooling and maintenance. At Segments, hosting is 6.0¢ per kWh (power, cooling, monitoring, cleaning and routine maintenance), billed on the power your machines use, on a 12-month contract. A miner bought from Segments can instead go on Full-care hosting at 6.8¢ per kWh on a 24-month term, with no repair charges for those 24 months; neither tier includes insurance. Cloud mining on Segments’ own machines is 6.8¢ per kWh all-in, with insurance and repairs included. A current, efficient machine stays profitable well above those rates; an old one does not. Summer heat and cooling

UAE summer air passes 45 °C, above what air-cooled ASICs are rated for, so the site’s cooling decides uptime in July and August. Hydro-cooled machines carry their heat away in water and suit the climate best; air-cooled machines need a site engineered for strong airflow and dust. Read hydro, air or immersion cooling in Gulf heat.

Buying a miner in the UAE

  • Choose by efficiency (J/TH), not price alone. It decides profit at any power price and after the 2028 halving. Compare models on the Antminer S23, Antminer S21 and Whatsminer M60 pages.
  • Check stock and delivery. In-stock machines hosted with Segments are typically plugged in within 24 hours of payment.
  • Expect 5% VAT on hardware and hosting invoices. Every Segments invoice is a UAE tax invoice.
  • Buying used? Use a due-diligence checklist: serials, a test on your own pool, warranty.

Bitcoin mining is carried out openly in the UAE, including by companies listed on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange and by state-linked operators. Companies that sell mining hardware and services are licensed like other businesses; Segments, for example, operates as Segments Cloud Hash FZ-LLC, a licensed UAE company. Whether your own activity needs a licence, and how its income is taxed, depends on what you do and where: take advice from a UAE lawyer or tax adviser for your case.

Getting started in five steps

  1. Pick a machine by efficiency and price per terahash on the miners page.
  2. Check what it earns at your hosting rate in the profitability calculator.
  3. Choose a hosting plan and centre on hosting; ask for a site tour if you want to see it first.
  4. Open an account with a mining pool and give us its stratum address and your worker name, or use SegPool, which pays to your own BTC wallet for a 1% fee.
  5. Pay, and watch your machine appear in your pool.

Mining income depends on the Bitcoin price, network difficulty and uptime, and is not guaranteed. A machine can lose value. This guide is general information, not legal, tax or investment advice.

Fragen

Is Bitcoin mining allowed in the UAE?
Bitcoin mining is carried out openly in the UAE, including by listed and state-linked companies, and hosting companies such as Segments operate under UAE trade licences. Whether your own activity needs a licence depends on what you do; take advice for your case.
How much does it cost to host a Bitcoin miner in the UAE?
At Segments, 6.0¢ per kWh (power, cooling, monitoring, cleaning and routine maintenance) on a 12-month contract, billed on the power used, plus a one-off setup fee ($300 per 3.5 kW, air or hydro), shipping to the centre ($30 per kW) and a refundable deposit of 30 days of hosting, applied to your final bill. A miner bought from Segments can instead go on Full-care hosting: 6.8¢ per kWh on a 24-month term, setup $60 per kW, no repair charges for those 24 months. Insurance is not included on either; you may arrange your own.
Is home Bitcoin mining profitable in Dubai?
Rarely. Residential electricity is expensive, and ASIC miners are loud and run hot in a climate that already passes 45 °C in summer. Most UAE buyers host their machines in a data centre instead.
Do I pay VAT on mining hardware and hosting in the UAE?
Segments charges 5% VAT on its invoices, which are UAE tax invoices. For how your mining income is taxed, ask a UAE tax adviser.
