How long does it take to mine 1 bitcoin?

Asil Gulsar · Mis à jour le 31 octobre 2026 · 3 min de lecture

With a single Antminer S21 (200 TH/s), about 32 years at today’s network difficulty; with an Antminer S23 Hyd (580 TH/s), about 11 years. To mine one bitcoin a year you need roughly 6.5 PH/s. Those figures assume difficulty stays where it was on 31 October 2026, which it won’t.

The maths in one line

The network finds about 144 blocks a day, and each pays a subsidy of 3.125 BTC, so miners share roughly 450 BTC a day plus fees. Your share is your hashrate divided by the network’s. At the end of October 2026 the network ran at about 1,060 EH/s, which is 1,060 million TH/s.

BTC per day ≈ your TH/s ÷ 1,060,000,000 × 450. For a 200 TH/s machine that is 0.000085 BTC a day, so 1 BTC takes about 11,800 days.

Pools pay the same thing as a hashprice: what one TH/s earns a day in dollars, the bitcoin a terahash mines a day times the Bitcoin price. Today’s hashprice, when the live feed has it, is shown below.

What one bitcoin costs you in power

Time matters less than cost. Multiply the days by the power a machine draws and the price of electricity. At 6.0¢/kWh, Segments’ hosting rate:

MachinePowerPower cost a dayPower cost per BTC mined
Antminer S19 95 TH/s3,250 W$4.45≈ $116,000
Antminer S21 200 TH/s3,500 W$4.79≈ $59,000
Antminer S23 Hyd 580 TH/s5,510 W$7.54≈ $32,000
Electricity only, at 6.0¢/kWh and the difficulty of 31 October 2026; the cost a day is at the 95% uptime target, and the cost per bitcoin is the same at any uptime. The machine’s price comes on top.

That is the real answer to the question: an old S19 spends more on power than the bitcoin it mines is worth, an S21 mines at about three quarters of the market price, and a hydro-cooled S23 at about two fifths of it. Efficiency (J/TH) decides, which is why the Antminer S23 and S21 pages list it for every model; the S23 vs S21 power bill compares them terahash by terahash.

Why the real time is different

  • Difficulty moves every 2,016 blocks, about every two weeks. When more machines join, each one’s share falls and the time to one bitcoin grows.
  • The halving in April 2028 cuts the subsidy from 3.125 to 1.5625 BTC. From then on the same machine mines about half as much. See what the 2028 halving means for a miner you buy today.
  • Uptime is never 100%. Maintenance, power events and repairs take time off; hosting contracts state an uptime target, not a guarantee.
  • Pool fees take 1–2% at most pools. SegPool charges 1%.

Could you get there faster by mining solo?

Only by luck. Solo mining pays the whole block (3.125 BTC plus fees) to whoever finds it, but a 200 TH/s machine would expect to find one about every 90 years. Pools smooth that luck into a daily payout, which is why nearly all miners use one.

To work this out for any model, electricity price and Bitcoin price, use the mining profitability calculator.

Questions

How long does it take to mine 1 bitcoin with one ASIC miner?
With an Antminer S21 (200 TH/s), about 32 years at the difficulty of 31 October 2026; with an Antminer S23 Hyd (580 TH/s), about 11 years. Difficulty changes every two weeks and the 2028 halving halves the reward, so treat these as today’s figures, not a forecast.
How much hashrate do I need to mine 1 bitcoin a year?
About 6.5 PH/s at the network difficulty of 31 October 2026, for example eleven or twelve Antminer S23 Hyd 580 TH/s machines. After the April 2028 halving you would need roughly twice that.
How much does it cost to mine 1 bitcoin?
In electricity at 6.0¢/kWh: about $32,000 with an S23 Hyd, $59,000 with an S21 and around $116,000 with an older S19, at the difficulty of 31 October 2026. The machine’s price is on top.
Can you mine 1 bitcoin a day?
Only with about 2.4 EH/s, around 4,100 S23 Hyd machines. The whole network mines about 450 BTC a day in block subsidy.
