Ten questions to ask any host
1. What exactly does the rate include?
An "all-in" rate should cover power, cooling, monitoring, cleaning and routine maintenance. Some hosts quote power only and add cooling or management fees per machine. Ask for the full list in writing and turn it into one number per kWh.
2. Am I billed on the power I use, or a flat amount?
Billing on metered kWh means you pay less when a machine is down or throttled. A flat monthly fee per machine charges you either way.
3. Is uptime a target or a guarantee, and what happens below it?
Every honest host states uptime as a target. What matters is how it is measured, where you can see it, and whether anything happens to your bill when it is missed.
4. How long is the contract, and what does leaving cost?
Check the minimum term, the early termination charge, the notice period and the cost of disconnecting and collecting your machines. Long terms at a low rate can cost more than a short one if you need to leave.
5. What are the one-off fees?
Installation, transport to the site, customs and deposits can add hundreds of dollars per machine. Get them before you compare rates.
6. How is the site cooled, and does that suit my machine?
Hydro-cooled machines need water-cooled racks; air-cooled machines need enough airflow at the hottest time of year. In the Gulf, summer air passes 45 °C, so ask how the site keeps machines in range in August. See hydro, air or immersion cooling in Gulf heat.
7. What happens when a machine breaks?
Ask what is fixed on site, what is sent away, how long it takes, what it costs and whether you keep paying hosting while it is out. A spare unit on request shortens downtime.
8. Where can I see my machines?
You should see each machine’s hashrate in the pool you chose, and the host should give you a portal with status and power use. A site you can visit is worth more than any dashboard.
9. Who is the company, and what do I get as an invoice?
The contract should name a licensed company you can look up, and every bill should be a proper tax invoice from it.
10. Can I visit before I sign?
A host that runs real halls lets you see them. If a visit is impossible, ask why.
