Methodology
- Sources
- Asking prices of approved Segments Marketplace ads, completed hosted sales settled by Segments, and dealer quotes collected by the Segments sales desk. Each observation is one machine price divided by its nameplate hashrate.
- Efficiency bands
- Machines are grouped by nameplate efficiency: under 14, 14–19, 19–25, 25–38 and 38+ J/TH. The bands are aligned with Hashrate Index so the numbers can be compared with global data.
- Calculation
- Each weekly value is the median $/TH of all observations in the four weeks ending that week, pooled across asks, sales and dealer quotes. We publish the 25th and 75th percentiles and the sample count next to every median.
- Outliers
- Staff review new observations and exclude obvious errors, such as a lot price entered as a unit price or a duplicate ad. Excluded observations stay in the dataset but are left out of every median.
- Cadence
- Snapshots are recomputed daily for the current week and published weekly, with Monday as the start of the week (UTC).
- Hosted vs ex-works
- Hosted-in-place prices are for machines already racked at a Segments site, where ownership moves without shipping. Ex-works prices are for machines collected from the seller. The two are never mixed.
- Limits
- A band with fewer than 3 observations is not published. Asking prices are not clearing prices, so the index can lag a falling market. Nothing on this page is investment advice.
